The Future Is Here — But Not Everyone’s Ready for It
I recently hosted a live webinar titled The Future of the Home Inspection Industry. The message was clear:
If you want to grow and thrive in the years ahead, you’ve got to stop being just a home inspector and start becoming a Property Consultant.
"Watch this 30-minute power-packed session and discover how to break free from agent dependency, rebrand as a Property Consultant, and book your schedule solid in 2025."
I walked through the advantages:
Control over your lead flow
Higher value perception with clients
More income opportunities beyond a single inspection
Less dependence on agents, especially buyer’s agents, in this post-Sitzer Burnett world
On paper, it all made sense.
But what I saw on the live Zoom call was something else entirely.
Disbelief. Aggravation. Flat-out resistance.
You could see it in their body language.
Some leaned back with arms crossed.
Others furrowed their brows, visibly frustrated.
A few even dropped into the chat that they didn’t believe it would work — or worse — that they didn’t want it to work because they hoped things would just go back to the way they were.
And let me tell you…
That was shocking.
I expected questions. I expected curiosity. Maybe even a little fear of the unknown.
What I didn’t expect was how many inspectors are still clinging to the past — holding out hope that if mortgage interest rates go down, agents will come back with open arms and a steady stream of referrals.
Here’s the problem:
Hope is not a strategy.
Waiting for rates to drop?
Waiting for agents to “get back to normal”?
That’s like waiting for the Yellow Pages to make a comeback.
The real estate industry has changed.
Consumers have changed.
Agent relationships have changed.
And if we don’t evolve with it, we’re going to get left behind.
Here’s the hard truth:
The inspectors who refuse to adapt will likely get squeezed out — not by me, not by consultants, but by the market itself.
On the other hand…
Inspectors who make the move from technician to trusted advisor — from checklist chaser to strategic consultant — will lead the next era of the inspection industry.
They’ll get more direct leads.
They’ll build lasting client relationships.
They’ll offer add-on services that multiply revenue.
They’ll become indispensable.
And they’ll stop living under the shadow of agents’ whims and shifting real estate trends.
So, where do you stand?
Still hoping things “go back to the way they were”?
Or ready to face the future head-on and lead your business — and your life — into something better?
Because the future is already here.
And the only question left is:
Will you change with it… or get left behind by it?
